Things you should know before entering chatting world

There are few things you need to know before you chat on-line. The first thing is that people are not always who they say they are. I'm sure you've heard stories about people who fell in love with someone over the net, and they turned out to be a mushroom. Would you talk to a stranger in the mall who was leering at kids and reading pornography? I DON'T THINK SO!!! My point is that you can't see peoples' faces from your computer screen, and you can't know if that person is a perfectly normal teenager, or some weirdo.

So let's talk about some simple precautions.

o Choose a gender-neutral id/alias/handle for yourself. You can have lots of fun with this.

o Never give out information about your location, age, gender, school, phone number, address, e-mail or other personal information. It is considered bad netiquette to ask these things and simply saying I don't give out that information is fine. If they bug you or tease you, LEAVE.

o Do not accept downloads. Downloading links your computer to theirs, and they can get access to all that information you've been so careful not to give them.

o Don't mention other sites that you frequent. Even if you are using a different alias, your style is probably recognizable to someone who is paying attention.

o Don't go into private chat rooms.

o Be sure that if you are allowing friends to use your computer, that they are following your rules. Their thoughtless usage can compromise your safety.

Chats can be fun if you find a chat room that focuses on your interests. Good judgment and these simple precautions will let you have fun without attracting piranhas.

web based chatting

Web based chatting are websites that allow users to communicate in real time using easily accessible web interfaces. They are types of internet chat rooms distinguished by their simplicity and accessibility to users who do not wish to take the time to install and learn to use specialized chat software. Unlike other user-oriented web sites, such as discussion forums and social networking sites, web chat sites typically do not require registration. This trait allows them to offer users instantaneous access, but also generates an extremely high level of competition between chat sites, as it allows users to switch between them with ease. There are hundreds of chat sites, which actively compete with each other to the point where some of the more popular ones, such as Chat Avenue and the Kewlchat Network, actually censor the names of other chat sites, preventing users from referring each other to competing chats.

online chatting

Online chat can refer to any kind of communication over the internet, but is primarily meant to refer to direct 1-on-1 chat or text-based group chat using tools such as instant messaging applications—computer programs, Internet Relay Chat, talkers and possibly MUDs, MUCKs, MUSHes and MOOes.

While many of the webs well known custodians offer online chat and messaging services for free, an increasing number of providers are beginning to show strong revenue streams from paid-for services. Again it is the Adult service providers, profiting from the advent of reliable and high-speed broadband, who are at the forefront of the paid-for online chat revolution.

For every business travelers engaging in a video call or conference call rather than braving the check-in queue, there are countless web users replacing traditional conversational means with online chat and messaging. Like Email, which has reduced the need and usage of letter, fax and memo communication, online chat is steadily replacing telephony as the means of office and home communication. The early adopters in these areas are undoubtedly teenage users of instant messaging; indeed it cannot be long before SMS text messaging usage declines as mobile handsets provide the technology for online chat and the ability to seamlessly hold and continue conversations across multiple devices.
